Apba master game rules
Today I took some time to unpackage the game, put the teams in their envelopes and read over the rules. Of course, I took some time to look over the cards, too. I did have enough time to play about one half between Denver and Seattle. The boards are familiar too but with some enhancements and game changes mostly to reflect changes in the game of football itself. Playing the game was slow, of course. It HAD been a while. I still like the booklet format for the game similar to the baseball game.
More so than the baseball game which granted I also have mostly memorized. With head to head, offensive coaches call the plays and defensive coaches can affect the outcome by keying on players and choosing the right defense.
Playing solo, one can adapt by using the appropriate defenses. I remember with the old game, I would even use one die for each play to help choose the defense geared towards the most appropriate defense so there would be a bit of randomization. To me, playing any APBA sports game is a lot about the stats. I had fun recreating my old school method of tracking passing, rushing, receiving and other stats. I failed miserably but I also learned from my mistakes.
Football so different than baseball where we essentially keep two kinds of stats, hitting and pitching. If the defensive coach calls Trick Play Defense and is correct, score it as a 7-yard rushing loss by the ball carrier, intended passer or punter.
The Jets have the ball on the Giants one-yard line late in the fourth quarter. Dice roll 53 results in Play Result 11 which is a one-yard gain. While playing APBA Football Face-to-Face, a lot of coaches like to spread the defense out 3WR set and run the ball against that light box Dime defense because the offensive run index is raised by one i.
One way to combat that is for the defensive coach to go Nickel instead of Dime. I would like to illustrate this with a game between the New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons. Dice roll 45 results in Play Result PR Instead of reading PR 17 9-yard gain the defensive coach will drop two-lines to PR 19 6-yard gain and then add one-yard for a 7-yard gain.
Therefore, it is not subject to pitching grade alterations. What is your ruling on this? Can someone help Brandon? The 4 stays a double and is not affected by grades, L or M. Those apply only to the original 6 in this case. If the 6 survives those potential changes, then it gets changed to a 4, as per the 6 result. Grade changes first on result but that only time grade changes impact. The double-column card caveat merely changes the play from a bases-clearing triple to a double, and the runner on first does not score automatically, as indicated by the advance number provided on the board.
I believe Brandon is correct. The result would be a single under adjusted pitching grades 22, 20,15,10 and 5 as there would be no second roll under grades All fractions in the final allotment will be rounded up to the nearest whole number. Any player who qualified for the league batting title during the previous Major League season will be limited in Games only. Pitchers shall be limited as to the number of starts, total appearances and innings pitched.
These limitations shall be computed in the same manner as article 6 above. Pitchers shall be further restricted according to the following. No pitcher who made less than 41 starts in the previous major league season may start with less than three days rest. A pitcher with more than 41 starts may start with 2 days rest, the number of times equal to the number of starts over No pitcher may start and relieve in the same series.
No pitcher may pitch more than 6 inning of relief in the same series. This may only be done once per series. In a five game series the final two games are considered a doubleheader. Thus no pitcher may start twice in any one series unless he started more than 41 games in the previous Major League season.
Any position player exceeding their game or at-bat limit will become a free agent. Any player that is overused in any capacity is NOT eligible for post season play. Each team's Major League Roster shall consist of a maximum of 25 players.
All other players controlled by a team are sent down to the Minor League. This restriction is negated in the case of an injury, in which case the injured player may be removed from the Major League Roster and replaced by another player. If this is done, the injured player may not be re-activated until the beginning of the next series, unless another injury should leave his team unable to field a full defensive team.
All Major League Rosters must include at least nine carded pitchers. Major League Rosters may be expanded from 25 to 30 players for the final two regularly scheduled meetings. Each team will submit a winter roster on a date determined by the Player Agent. The size of a teams roster will determine the number of draft picks that team has in the Annual Draft. Each team will be allotted a sufficient number of picks to achieve a roster total of 36 players.
If, for example a team protects 28 players, that team would receive 8 draft picks. Each year, an annual draft will be held prior to the start of the Championship Season.
The drafting order for all rounds other than the first will be in inverse order of winning percentage during the previous CMBA Championship Season. Ties for draft position will be resolved by some random selection manner and positions will rotate from round to round. Teams that were inactive during the previous season will be placed at the end of each round, after the active teams have drafted.
The drafting order for the first round will be determined by lottery governed by the following guidelines:. A All teams that qualified for the CMBA playoffs during the previous season, as well as all inactive teams will be placed in a group and all non-playoff teams in another group.
B Teams will be awarded chances in the Lottery according to the following formula: Three chances for the team with the highest winning percentage in each group, with one additional chance awarded to each succeeding team in that group. The club with the worst overall record shall receive 3 bonus chances above the previously mentioned formula. C Under no circumstances, shall the team with the worst percentage from the previous season pick any lower than third.
Three year draft rule: Every third year a new team will be drawn from the unused teams and added to the draft able teams. Also a team will be removed from the list of current draft-able teams.
When a player who is no longer on a draft-able team is cut, he will be included in the upcoming draft. If not selected, that player then becomes unavailable until joining a draft eligible team. The playoff qualifications for the subsequent Championship Season will be determined at the Annual Business Meeting.
